Joint statement of «Path of Law» and «Legal Education» NGOs

“Path of Law” NGO is joining “Legal Education and Control” NGO’s statement dated on

June 29 on  draft Law of RA on “Civil forfeiture of illegal assets”. In addition to the points raised in that statement, we consider it appropriate to pay attention to the following circumstances:

  1. A bill establishing an intensive  intervention on fundamental human rights had had to  to be provided for the public discussion during its concept development phase, among other reasons, to allow civil society organizations to present to the public the risks and threats not posed by the existing and ruling political party. However, the civil society has not been given such an opportunity, and according to a number of international organizations, the Ministry is in fact going to start further discussions with “trump cards”  obtained as a result of a non-transparent process.
  2. In addition to the international standards, the conceptual approaches underlying this project should also be widely discussed from the perspectives of the structures and constraints enshrined in the Constitution of RA. The international expertise is not competent to give a reliable assessment of any project’s compliance with the national constitutional standards established in the Republic of Armenia over the years.

Our NGO will also present the problems mentioned above to the international competent bodies.
